This blog is intended to record our attempts to bring Dr. Yunus‘ vision of rural Internet centres into being. Grameen Solutions is the computer branch in the family of Grameen companies.

We are calling ourselves Social Business Interface to follow Dr. Yunus’ definition of creating ’social businesses’: investors don’t take dividends out of the profits of an enterprise.

Social businesses address social objectives, are owned by women or other less privileged groups and operate their enterprises without losses and without dividends.

Back home, I am blogging about getting broadband to a multi-media centre in a village in Brandenburg in the former DDR.

I am Sabine Kurjo McNeill and am greatly aided by Brad Meyer and Dr. Lilly Evans Dipl.Ing. besides Andrew Wilcox who designed our logo which you find on YuNuSphere, our blog to expand Dr. Yunus’ sphere of influence.

Together with Princess Helena Gagarin Moutafian MBE, we’re helping the charities that she’s been supporting:

I have gone through ‘Digital links’ and like the idea of recycling computers.

    Yes, Badrud,

recycling computers is nearly an ethical imperative. Why throw them away here if they can help someone in another part of the world?

Thanks for following these ‘digital footsteps’!

    Sabine

I have now submitted an application to the “Digital Media and Participatory Learning” competition that is sponsored by HASTAC and the MacArthur Foundation for our rural multimedia centre in the ex-DDR.
